Interior Design Career Day 2010

What’s going in Boston for interior design….

Interior Design Career Day 2010 will be an exciting learning opportunity for students of interior design. The event is being held on October 1st in downtown Boston. We invite you and your students to register today to reserve your spot at this informative and interactive event. Go to idcd2010.com for details on registration and the design competition!

Overview:

The day will begin with breakfast and check in at the Hilton Boston Financial District, followed by the Keynote presentation.  This year's speaker is Meichi Peng (meichipeng.com), a Wentworth Graduate and lauded interior design professional. The competition awards ceremony will follow Meichi's presentation where one talented design student will win a Knoll Generation chair! Please encourage your students to enter. With a maximum capacity of 140 students at the event, the odds of winning are excellent!

Workshops begin at 10am.  Students will break into four groups, rotating through the day in order for them to experience the exciting topics covered in each presentation. Workshops include:

A discussion panel will feature designers from all over Boston representing different market sectors from Retail to Corporate to Healthcare design. They will cover the differences and similarities of each and invite students to ask questions about the various sectors available to them.

Branding interior environments, noting how designing for a total experience and infusing a company's brand into the finishes, graphics, and architectural detail is emerging as the new standard of good design.

Interview training is useful to just about everyone in the field today. Students will understand how presentation, resumes, cover letters and interpersonal skills will play a part in how they impress their interviewers. This workshop will give them the tools to stand out in the market today.

Creating a Network is a critical part of obtaining and maintaining employment and attaining and retaining business. Jeff Tompkins will present to students on how they play a part in this network and how to maximize their effectiveness of their network.

The day will be segmented with a networking luncheon at noon, where students will lunch with working professionals and have an opportunity to view their portfolios and ask them questions about the work they do. This part of the day has always been a success and we are excited to bring it back this year.

Space is limited! Please print and post the attached competition flier and event poster with the day's details. Again, registration information can be found at idcd2010.com
