Students in Mount Ida College’s Interior Design Program understand the importance of gaining hands-on, practical experience in the industry. Jenny Davis, a senior and international student from Bristol, England, recently took advantage of one such opportunity at the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) New England Chapter’s Student Portfolio Day on March 30. At the event, she won first place, receiving a new Generation Chair by Knoll, for her portfolio against other undergraduate and graduate interior design students in New England.
“Winning first prize at this event was an honor for me,” said Jenny Davis. “The Knoll Generation chair sums up everything that I have worked for in the last four years. The result has not only given me a new lease of motivation for my thesis project, but also for my future career in Interior Design.”
“I’m very proud of Jenny Davis for her hard work in achieving top rank at Student Portfolio Day,” said Rose Botti-Salitsky, Director of Interior Architecture. “This was the School of Design’s first year participating in this event; however, it will not be the last. Our program continually leads students to achieve experiential success, beyond the classroom.”
Davis joined 40 other interior design students in submitting her portfolio, including two of her classmates: Victoria Johnson and Sandrina Beho. All three students learned how to create a portfolio in their Portfolio Presentation course taught by Courtenay Dean Wallace, Visiting Professor of Interior Architecture. On the day of the event, IIDA offered portfolio reviews, which were evaluated on format, layout and design. While all students were looking to impress design professionals with their innovative ideas, only two winners could receive the top recognition for their interior design portfolios.
Congratulations! on taking first Position here
