Festival Of Lights 2016

On Friday, April 22, 2016 the Lighting Design class hosted their 2nd annual Festival Of Lights!

The day started off at 10AM, when the students were paired up with their lighting professionals from companies all over New England! After splitting into teams, the theme of this year's display was announced and the teams got moving on their designs. Since the event was held on Earth Day, Professor Stephanie McGoldrick found it appropriate to have the theme be Earth Day! Being such a broad topic, this allowed for each team to really branch out and create spectacular displays.

Teams

Grace Herron, Ashley Crosby, Cassidy Dickeson & Jay Cormier and Ryan Thomson from NELight
MaryKate Reidy, Megan Jewell, Bochra Rajkhan & Carlos Alonso-Niemeyer of Reflex Lighting and Bryan Lussier of Lumenpulse
Shannon Bryne, Lanna Cohen, Stacey Marino & Anthony Guerriero and Ted Farnham of Boston Light Source.
Kathryn Richtarcsik, Ercilia Peres & Erik Lekstrom, Svetlana Bekker and Dennis Tetreault of Apex Lighting.

Each team had an hour to plan once they found out the theme. After planning, lunch was served and each team was given a budget of $50 to spend on anything needed to complete their display. 1:30-5:30 was set-up time for the displays, and our teams were hard at work. Each team worked tirelessly to create an amazing lighting display to reflect their chosen theme. Below are a few pictures of our teams in action!

Megan, Bochra and MaryKate cutting out super secret props for their display!
Ryan from NElight hanging some vines.. what's the theme?
Lanna and Anthony laying down a blue tarp for their display.

Once set up was completed, we rejoined for a group dinner and started discussing final touches. Right around 6:30, groups started were finishing their displays and getting ready for viewing and voting to start! At this point we had our Fashion Design students join us. A group of students designed clothing that incorporated lighting, which they modeled around campus as students and faculty viewed our lighting displays. Voting began at 7:30 and was open until 9:00, and we had a great turn out this year, despite the rain!
